Coastal Bedroom Retreat

Miami, Florida, USA

Project Overview

Some rooms are designed to be seen. This one was designed to be felt. The brief for this Miami bedroom was centred entirely on creating a sense of calm the kind of atmosphere that makes it easy to leave the day behind and genuinely rest. Drawing from the coastal environment of its location, the design uses natural textures, a soft neutral palette, and considered layering of light and materials to build a space that feels both beautiful and completely effortless to inhabit.

The Challenge

The bedroom had accumulated a mix of mismatched furniture over the years that, while individually functional, created a visually chaotic environment that worked against relaxation. Storage was insufficient, meaning clothing and personal items regularly encroached on living space. The lighting had never been thoughtfully planned a single central fixture provided flat, undirected light that neither supported practical tasks nor created a restful atmosphere.

Our Solution

The furniture layout was rebuilt from the ground up, with every piece selected for its contribution to the overall calm of the room. A full built-in wardrobe was designed to house everything the room needed to store, clearing the surfaces and freeing the floor. The lighting scheme was redesigned with three distinct layers: ambient ceiling lighting for general use, bedside reading lights positioned for comfort and practicality, and softer accent lighting to create mood in the evenings. Natural fabrics linen bedding, a jute rug, and woven cushions brought texture and warmth to the space, while the coastal-inspired palette of soft whites, warm sand tones, and muted blues created the sense of ease the client had been looking for.
