Children’s Bedroom Design

Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Cozy child's bedroom with bed and desk.

Project Overview

Designing for children requires a different kind of thinking. This project in Phoenix, Arizona, set out to create a bedroom that could genuinely support all aspects of a child's daily life a place to play freely, focus during study time, and wind down for sleep. The design avoids the trap of short-lived novelty themes, instead using timeless colours, flexible furniture, and smart storage to create a room that adapts as the child grows. Bright, considered use of colour energises the space without overwhelming it, while every element has been chosen to serve a practical purpose.

The Challenge

The original room had a critical shortage of storage, which left toys, books, and belongings scattered across the floor. Beyond the visual clutter, the lack of defined zones meant the room wasn't supporting the different activities a child needs throughout the day. There was no clear place to study, no dedicated area for creative play, and rest was being affected by the general disorganisation of the space.

Our Solution

We redesigned the room around a built-in storage system that runs along one full wall, incorporating open shelving, closed cabinetry, and drawer units at child-height for easy access and tidying. A dedicated study nook was carved into one corner of the room, fitted with a desk, task lighting, and a pinboard wall to encourage focus and creativity. The remaining floor area was kept intentionally clear to give the child room to play. Colour-blocking on the walls and carefully selected soft furnishings brought personality into the space without overpowering it.
